All major festivals are celebrated with a Family Eucharist at 10.00am. We also have a Family Eucharist to mark St Barnabas Day: this year we held an outdoor service on the school playing field which was followed with a picnic lunch and an afternoon of games or watching the England World Cup football match in the church hall.
We hold a Dawn Eucharist with the lighting of the Easter Fire every Easter Day, and a Crib Service and Sung Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day and Easter Day we also have a said Eucharist at 8.00am. Services in Holy Week are shared amongst the churches of our team and so change every year. We also have regular shared Team Services.
We have begun to introduce regular memorial services and an annual Eucharist of the Commemoration of the Souls of the Faithful Departed. We also hold an annual animal service and an annual Christingle service to raise money for the Children's Society: this service is planned and led by young people from St Barnabas.
Occasionally the evening service pattern alters to accommodate special services such as the memorial service.
Our family services are always Eucharistic. Children of any age are very welcome and it is not unusual to see a few toddlers pottering about the church during the service – they particularly enjoy climbing the (low) pulpit steps.
We try to involve our children and young people in the services as much as possible and they read, assist with prayers, take part in dramas and two of our teenagers are also licensed to administer the chalice. It is at our family services that we welcome those preparing for baptism.
